Slick conditions cause roadway havoc in Cambria Co.

By: WJAC Web Staff

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- A brief period of snow caused icy and slick conditions, causing roadway closures in some parts of Cambria County Tuesday afternoon.

Johnstown police said a quick drop in temperatures caused several roadways to ice over, including Johnstown Expressway (Route 56), which led to its closure for about an hour.

Police said several vehicles were involved in multiple crashes along the expressway eastbound between downtown Johnstown and Route 219 in Richland Township.

Specifics on each accident were not available, but police said no serious injuries were reported.

Other roadways throughout southern Cambria County were subject to the same icing situation, leading to other minor crashes and temporary road closures, officials said.

The majority of the roadway closures, crashes and slick conditions occurred between 12 and 1 p.m., officials said.
