Dasher Boards, scoreboards donated to Portage for rink

By: Jackalyn Kovac

PORTAGE, Pa. --- A town working together to get a rink for the community received the news Thursday that Everything Ice donated several items to the cause.

The company donated used dasher boards and two scoreboards to the community. The boards are the walls that go around the hockey rink.

The Portage community has come together several times to raise money for the facility. They are working toward a $120,000 goal.

"Whenever you are looking at an inline rink your larger ticketed item is your dasher boards. When these became available and I knew they were in need of dasher boards, it became a win-win for everybody," said Everything Ice associate Ian Bennett.

The next step in the process will be to raise enough money to have concrete put down where the rink will go.

"Anyone will be able to use this rink. We're going to have leagues at this rink but if someone wanted to bring their kids down to skate they are more than welcome to," said Portage Youth Hockey Vice President Don Wyar.
