Death of Cambria Co. man in state prison remains under investigation

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The death of an inmate from Cambria County in a western Pennsylvania prison remains under investigation, officials said.

Greene County District Attorney Marjorie Fox told the Obsever-Reporter newspaper the death of Ronald Yarbough, 22, of Cresson, is being investigated as a potential homicide.

Yarbough was found unresponsive in his cell at the State Correctional Institutional at Greene, outside Waynesburg, about 6 p.m. Friday. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The results of an autopsy performed Saturday have not yet been released, but Fox said the death is still being investigated.

Yarbough was serving one to four years for aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, stemming from an incident in Cambria County in 2010.

A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, which oversees SCI Greene, said they are waiting for state police and internal investigations to conclude before commenting.
