Galactic Empire to invade Cambria County library

By: WJAC Web Staff

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- The Cambria County library is anticipating a visit from Darth Vader, some stormtroopers, Darth Maul, Tusken Raiders, Gamorrean Guards and other visitors from another galaxy this weekend.

The Cambria County Library in downtown Johnstown is hosting the free community Star Wars celebration on Saturday from 1 3 p.m. at their location at 248 Main St.

The library is bringing in all sorts of costumed characters from Star Wars for the family-friendly event that is designed to promote reading, literacy and imagination.

Library Youth Services Coordinator Becky Pollino said it will be more than a chance to for people to see the characters, but will include trivia, a question and answer session and Star Wars themed crafts.

We want to promote imagination, literacy, learning and we thought Star Wars is just such a hot thing that it would be a good draw for people to come in and kind of bring the community together, Pollino said.

The people playing the characters are members of the 501st Legion and the Garrison Carida, a group of volunteers who portray the characters for charitable and community-based events.
