Standoff ends in Cambria Co., 1 in custody

By: Marc Stempka

SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A man is in custody following a six hour standoff in the northern part of Cambria County.

State police at Ebensburg said Robert Goss Sr., of 437 Greenwich Rd., in Susquehanna Township was arrested by troopers at about 3 p.m.

That area is just west of Northern Cambria, near the Indiana County line.

Police said Goss was locked in a bedroom and had at least one rifle in his possession, and may have access to other weapons.

The situation started about 8 a.m. Wednesday after the his girlfriend returned to the home to find the front door unlocked and him locked in a bedroom, police said.

Police said there was an incident between the two that required troopers to respond to the home. It was still unclear what the incident was.

The girlfriend is cooperating with police, officials said.

Troopers said the special emergency response team (SERT) was activated to the scene.

A perimeter was established and some nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, police said.

Northern Cambria School District Superintendent John Jubas said the district does have students who live in the area and would be affected by the police situation. The district contacted parents in that area to inform them of the situation.

Jubas said those students were to be kept in the school for their safety at dismissal time and were asking parents to pick up their children at the school.
