Police investigating dance fundraiser scheme

By Jackalyn Kovac

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- West Hills police are investigating a local scheme involving several Cambria County dance studios.

Police said a man and a young girl have been going door to door soliciting money for the studios.

Johnstown Concert Ballet was one of the studios mentioned and artistic director Carla Prucnal told 6 News her company doesn't participate in door-to-door fundraisers.

"We don't ask our students to sell items so this I knew immediately was a scam. People were going around pretending to make money for the ballet," Prucnal said. "These women sounded like they really truly wanted to help ballet and were probably even people who come to our performances."

West Hills police are investigating the claims and are asking anyone who may have see something or may have been a victim of the scheme to call their non-emergency line.
