Man arrested after allegedly stealing money from Cambria Co. residents

By: WJAC Web Staff

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Police arrested a man accused of going door-to-door using his daughter as bait to collect cash.

Police said Jon Beltz would use his daughter and pretend she was raising money for a legitimate business.

Police said Beltz collected money for cookies or pizzas but had zero intention on delivering the food.

Authorities caught Beltz with money and a list of people he took it from.

"I talked to a couple people that said they weren't sure or didn't feel right," Johnstown Police Chief Craig Foust said. "They were right in their instincts. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it."

A woman, Nichole Cairns, involved in the process was allegedly driving Beltz to different neighborhoods.

The little girl is staying with family.

Beltz is facing more than half a dozen of charges including corruption of minors and receiving stolen property.

He is due in court July 3.
