Crews clean up tar spill in Centre Co.

By: WJAC Web Staff

PHILIPSBURG, Pa. -- Crews spent hours Friday morning cleaning up a tar spill along roadways in Centre County.

State police at Philipsburg said a tanker truck carrying liquid tar leaked some of its load onto two streets in Philipsburg.

Police said when John Klanchar, 65, pulled out from an intersection at about 5 a.m., a door on the top of the tanker opened, causing the liquid tar to spill.

The spill happened in the area of Presqueisle and Centre streets, police said. Emergency crews had to close the roads for at least four hours to clean up the spill.

Police said anyone with damage to their vehicle caused by the spill should contact the Philipsburg barracks at 814-342-3370.
