Garman Theater's fate could be decided tonight

By: WJAC Web Staff
BELLEFONTE, Pa. --

The future of Bellefonte's fire-damaged Garman Theater could be decided soon.

Bellefonte council meets tonight -- Monday  -- at 7:30 p.m. and is expected to consider a recommendation from the borough's historical architecture review board. The recommendation is that the theater be torn down to make way for apartments.

A local developer has plans to build housing units on the site of the Garman and neighboring Hotel Do De.

Monday's Centre Daily Times reports that a retired businesswoman will present a petition to the board asking council to save the theater.
