FERGUSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Police in Centre County have filed charges against a man they said led officers on a chase through two counties after finding his vehicle following a citation for public drunkenness.

Ferguson Township police filed charges against David McNelis, 44, of Tyrone, after police allege he found his vehicle after it was towed and led them on a chase from the State College area to Bald Eagle.

Police said McNelis was found unconscious at about 4 p.m. inside his vehicle Monday in the 100 block of South Water Street. Police cited him for public drunkenness, released him to a family member and had his vehicle towed.

More than two hours later, officers learned McNelis had found and was driving his vehicle.

Officers found McNelis driving on West College Avenue near Science Park Road and tried to stop him, police said.

Police said McNelis didnt stop and started to lead police in a pursuit that followed West Whitehall Road to Route 220.

Officers were able to stop McNelis at the intersection of Routes 220 and 350 in northern Blair County, police said.

During the chase, police said speeds went 20 mph over the speed limit, but no crashes or injuries were reported.

McNelis was charged with fleeing or attempting to eluding police, driving under the influence and other traffic violations. He was place in the Centre County Correctional Facility on $75,000 bond.
