Arrest made in Ferguson Township standoff

By: Lauren Hensley

FERGUSON TOWNSHIP, Pa.--- An arrest is made a week after reports of shots being fired and a police standoff in Ferguson Township. As of Wednesday, a suspect is behind bars for the ordeal. Police said Evan Dreibelbis is allegedly responsible for a tense, seven-hour standoff at Circleville Road that happened on Dec. 30. According to the criminal complaint, Dreibelbis had a fight with a family member, armed himself with a gun and threatened to take his own life or the life of anyone who interfered.

"Anytime there is a contention that there is some type of violence or gun violence, and it's not that we don't take all crime seriously, but that has the precocity to effect people other than the ones that are just involved," Sgt. Robert Glenny with the Ferguson Township Police Department said.

The standoff called for dozens of law enforcement officials to respond. Even the Centre County Tactical Response and Tactical Negotiations teams were called in. These specialty teams ultimately ended the potentially dangerous situation without any injuries.

"It was just a matter of talking him out by one of the negotiators," Sgt. Glenny said. "He finally agreed to come out so everything ended well and no one was hurt we are thankful for that."

Dreibelbis is facing two counts of simple assault and one count of making terroristic threats. To read the orginial report from 6News click here.
