Kidnapping reported on Penn State campus

By: WJAC Web Staff

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State University police are investigating a reported kidnapping that happened over the weekend in Centre County.

Police said the incident happened Saturday at about 1 a.m. near Simmons Hall on Shortlidge Road when a vehicle of college-age men took a female student off of the sidewalk.

Police said the men were wearing dark hooded sweatshirts, had scarves covering their faces and were in a dark sedan. One of the men grabbed the woman off of the sidewalk and forced her into the vehicle.

Police said the men drove the woman to an off-campus location, where they forced the woman out of the vehicle and tried to sexually assault her. She was able to get away from the men by pushing one of them aside and ran for help.

She was not injured during the incident.

Those on campus were urged to utilize university services, like Safe Walk, or use the buddy system and walk with a friend if they feel it is necessary, police said. Anyone seeing any suspicious activity was asked to contact police.

Centre County CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 regarding this case.
