Fire damages Clearfield apartments

CLEARFIELD, Pa.

Several people were left homeless Wednesday night after fire damages the apartment building they were living in.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. on Nichols St. in Clearfield.

Firefighters spent most of the afternoon on scene and said the apartments are a total loss.

Residents were visibly in shock and devastated as firefighters worked on controlling the fire.  Three apartments were inside the converted building.

"We were alerted for a structure fire at 221 nichols street, said Clearfield assistant fire chief Justin Worley.  When we arrived on scene we found smoke.  Its currently under investigation by PSP, Clearfield fire department and the borough fire marshal."

Seven different fire companies from the surrounding area were called in to help.

No people had to be rescued though a few pet cats were taken out by firefighters.  A pet dog was reported missing, and responders aren't sure if it made it out or not.

The cause is under investigation.
