I-80 west closed in Clearfield area

Truck fire causes road closure, drivers asked to use detour

By: Marc Stempka

PINE TOWNSHIP, Pa. A truck fire caused the closure of a major interstate in Clearfield County Tuesday morning.

Clearfield County emergency dispatch said a tractor-trailer caught fire at about 6:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80 in Pine Township. The fire and the resulting cleanup required the westbound lanes to be closed.

PennDOT officials said I-80 was closed between Exit 120 (Clearfield) and Exit 111 (Penfield) and motorists were asked to follow the blue detour to get around the closure.

PennDOT said the detour would take motorists off the highway at Exit 120 to Route 879 West to Route 322 West to Route 322 West/Route 153 North and back onto I-80.

Officials said the roadway was expected to be reopened by 4 p.m. Heavy traffic is expected through the Clearfield area.
