Accident shuts down Interstate 80 in Clearfield County

By: WJAC Web Staff

BRADFORD TOWNSHIP. Pa.-- Emergency crews continue to work to clean up a 50-car pile up on Interstate 80 in Clearfield County caused by poor roadway conditions as a line of freezing rain moved through the area Wednesday morning, officials said.

State police confirmed no serious injuries were reported in the pileup, which happened at about 7 a.m. on I-80 westbound between Exit 120 (Clearfield/Shawville) and Exit 133 (Kylertown/Philipsburg) in Bradford Township, just east of Clearfield.

Clearfield Fire Chief Chad Baughman said initial reports were 40 tractor-trailers and 10 passenger cars were involved in an accident.

Police said those who suffered injuries were taken to Clearfield Hospital for treatment.

Officials at Clearfield Hospital said they are treating about 15 patients.

Fullington Trailways, a local bus company, said it sent a bus to the scene to keep those who were not injuried and emergency officials warm.

Interstate 80 eastbound in that area has reopened following earlier crashes that caused the portion of the highway to close.
