Community paying respects to local lawmaker who passed away
By: Kerri Corrado
Representative Dick Hess died Friday.
He was in his 14th term as a state lawmaker and served as chairman of the House Transportation committee.
"We will miss him because of the legislator that he was. We'll miss him and the whole community will miss him," Republican Committee member Earl Miller said.
Flags were lowered and nothing but sadness was shown on the faces of those who attended the viewing Monday night.
Hess, a veteran Republican, died at the UMPC Hospital in Pittsburg from complications of his recent leg surgery, but his legacy will still live on.
Cynthia Bambara, president of the Allegheny College of Maryland says Hess was a friend of the college, offering support from Harrisburg.
"He was an absolute wonderful person and true friend and supporter of education," Bambara said.
Those who worked with him say he treated everyone with respect, very active with veterans, and an ideal representative.
Hess will be buried Tuesday at the Grandview Cemetery in Saxton.
