Police: Speed believed to be a factor in crash

CHEST TOWNSHIP, Pa. State police continued Wednesday to investigate a crash that seriously injured four teenagers in Clearfield County on Tuesday.

Police said four teenage girls were injured when the pickup truck they were in left the roadway and crashed into a tree, gate and post at about 3:40 p.m. on Westover Road in Chest Township.

Police said the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when she crossed the roadway, first striking the tree.

Police said three of the girls were flown to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. One girl was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

The names, ages and extent of the injuries of the girls involved were not released. Officials confirmed the four girls attended Harmony Area High School.

Fire and EMS crews from Clearfield and Cambria counties were called to assist at the scene.

A state police reconstruction team was called in and their investigation was ongoing.
