Restaurant hoping to bring business back to downtown Johnstown

By: Kerri Corrado

JOHNSTOWN, Pa.

A Johnstown restaurant is expanding its operation.

The Press Bistro is hoping to bring more people to the downtown area in the evenings.

"I guess you can say it was a dream to have my own restaurant for both my wife and I. The opportunity fronted itself here for us in downtown Johnstown. It was a great opportunity and a beautiful location, so we decided to do for it," co-owner Jeremy Shearer said.

The Press is across from Central Park in the heart of downtown Johnstown.

"The idea of the Press kind of evolved from our sandwiches and wraps, which we press on an Italian-style panini presses. Everything tastes better on toasted bread' is kind of our philosophy," Shearer said.

"We came here after work just to have a good meal. Everything was great. We enjoyed everything," said Matt Layton, who works in Johnstown.

The Press has been open for lunch for a few months now, but recently got a liquor license. Shearer said he is hoping to expand the options.

The bar offers crafts beers, wine by the glass, cocktails and sharing plates.

"Everyone overwhelmingly seems to really like what we are doing, so it's positive, it's encouraging and makes  us want to keep pushing forward," Shearer said.

Shearer said he hopes to bring business and interests back to downtown Johnstown.
