JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A section of a Cambria County highway was closed because of a multi-vehicle accident, with this being the third such accident on the same stretch of roadway in a week.
Several emergency crews were called to Route 22 westbound in Jackson Township at the bottom of Chickaree Mountain about 1 p.m. Monday for a crash that was reportedly involving several tractor-trailers. The roadway opened at about 4 p.m.
A Cambria County Emergency Dispatch supervisor said at least one person was trapped in the crash that happened in the area of Route 22 between Dishong Mountain Road and County Line Road.
6 News reporter Maria Miller reported at least two tractor-trailers were involved and a PennDOT plow truck was rolled onto its side, in addition to other vehicles in the pile-up.
The dispatcher said fire crews from Jackson Township, Nanty Glo, West Taylor Township and Dauntless were called to the scene, including several medical units.
There was no immediate information available about the extent of any injuries of those involved in the crash or what may have been the cause.
On Jan. 27 a tractor-trailer crash happened in the same area along Route 22 west, where a truck crashed through the median and collided with another in the eastbound lanes.
On Jan. 28, a tractor-trailer also crashed, with this one near the top of Chickaree Mountain at the Jackson Township Community Rod & Gun Club on Route 22 west. The truck crashed through a guiderail and rolled onto its roof off the highway.
Poor weather conditions were believed to have been factors in those crashes.
