Cambria Co. man pleads guilty in beating death of father

By: Marc Stempka

EBENSBURG, Pa. -- A Cambria County man has entered a guilty plea in the beating death of his father, according to the district attorney.

Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan said in a news release Wednesday Jonathan Kuzma entered the guilty plea to a criminal homicide charge.

Prosecutors said Kuzma killed his father on Aug. 2 of last year by striking him over the head with a hammer and stabbing him in the neck in his Bond Street home in the Moxham section of Johnstown.

Police alleged Kuzma killed his father and then stole money, medications and his vehicle.

"Based on the circumstances of the crime, the Office of the District Attorney intends to seek the highest degree of guilt, [f]irst [d]egree [m]urder at the degree of guilt hearing," Callihan said in the release.

Kuzma will appear back in court in August, where Judge Timothy Creany will determine the degree of murder in the case.
