Suspicious package causes evacuation of Centre County building

Building evacuated for about 20 minutes

BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- A Centre County office building was evacuated Tuesday morning after a possible suspicious package was delivered.

Officials said the Willowbank county office building, at 420 Holmes St. in Bellefonte, was evacuated around 9 a.m. after a package was delivered with a short piece of wire hanging out of the packaging material.

The building was evacuated for about 20 minutes while crews investigated. Once the package was opened, it was determined to be harmless, officials said.

Officials believed the package contained some kind of plaque that had a wire sticking out.

The building has since been reopened and daily operations continued as normal.
