Town starts unique drug drop off program

Residents in Bellefonte now have a safe place to dispose of their unwanted prescription drugs.
The towns police department teamed up with the local post master to build a prescription drug drop off box.  Its a former letter mailbox and is located inside the Bellefonte police department's lobby.

It is clearly marked and secured with locks.

Police are inviting everyone to use the drop off when getting rid of medicines.
"We don't them put in the sewer system, that causes problems, said Bellefonte police officer Jason Brower.

He also said having prescription medicine in a house makes them a target for thieves.

The drop off is available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
