Police: Men were behind two day robbery spree

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Two men are in custody and facing charges accused of going on a robbery spree in the city of Altoona over the course of two days.
Investigators said Shawn Beck and Tyler Lattieri walked into the Dollar General Store along South Lloyd Street just after 8 on Monday and showed a handgun and demanded cash from the clerk.

Police said the pair took off in a red Acura with some cash.

They said the same men robbed the Citizen's Bank along Broad Avenue Tuesday morning just before 9:30, but were not get any money before leaving.  A short time after that,  police said Beck and Lattieri hit the Family Dollar Store along East Pleasant Valley Boulevard and got away with a small amount of cash.

Several police cars closed in on the suspects a few blocks from the former Washington and Jefferson Elementary School after spotting the same vehicle from Monday's robbery.

Heavy police presence in the area forced the Learning Express Preschool to go into a lockdown for about 15 to 20 minutes as a safety precaution.

Once police arrested the suspects and cleared the area the lockdown was lifted, but police stayed on the site thru morning dismissal.

Police credit the quick response from area law enforcement in catching the suspects.

"The fact that we had so many sheriff deputies, nice to see that many officers step forward and take responsibility for their communities, said Altoona Police Lt. Jeffery Pratt.

Investigators said they believe the two men were looking for money to buy drugs.
