Woman struck, killed by vehicle in Bedford Co.

By Marc Stempka

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. A woman was struck by a passing vehicle and killed in an accident on a Bedford County roadway Monday night.

State police at Bedford said Glenda Riley, 57, of Everett, was killed when she walked on to the roadway to attempt to get a passing vehicle to slow down.

Police said Riley was in a vehicle with other individuals that had struck a deer along Business Route 220 near Sawblade Road at about 10 p.m.

Police said while others were trying to remove the deer from the roadway, Riley attempted to slow down a pickup truck driven by Timothy Baumgardner, 48, of Manns Choice.

Police said Baumgardner tried to slow down upon seeing Riley and tried to swerve out of the way, but his vehicle struck Riley.

Riley was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
