Firm hired to operate sewage plant

By: WJAC Web Staff

In a split decision, the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority has hired a company to operate its Dornick Point Sewage Treatment Plant.

The vote Tuesday was 3-2 in favor of Severn Trent Services being granted a five-year contract for $1.2 million. Authority officials said the key part of the deal is saving the citys 24,000 customers about $500,000 a year.

Severn operates 400 wastewater plants in 20 states. A company spokesman said Severn will interview all current employees to keep their jobs.
