Man faces attempted homicide charges in attack on mother

TYRONE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- An Blair County man is accused of trying to kill his mother after the two got into an argument on New Years Eve, police said.

State police at Hollidaysbug said Matthew James Baldessaro, 30, of Altoona, got into the argument with his mother, but then assaulted her, causing her severe face and head injuries.

Police said Baldessaro assaulted his mother, Debra Baldessaro, 55, of Altoona, at a home on Rustic Hollow Lane in Tyrone Township at about 12 p.m. Tuesday.

Matthew was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and other charges, police said. He was placed in the Blair County Prison on $500,000 bail.

Debra was taken to UPMC Altoona and then transferred to a hospital in Pittsburgh for additional treatment, police said. Her condition was not known.

Police said their investigation was ongoing.
