School board terminates Penns Valley athletic director after theft charge filed
By: Lauren Hensley
PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa. --Just days after we told you the Penns Valley athletic director was accused of stealing money from school district athletic event admission fees, the school board has decided to terminate him. According to state police, they filed charges against Donald W. Hosterman for allegedly taking the money from Penns Valley School District athletic events. Hosterman was charged with one count of theft by unlawful taking and one count of receiving stolen property, police said. He is accused of taking $390.75 from several district athletic events. The board had a to decide whether to allow Hosterman to resign or terminate him. It was a unanimous decision.
I am really pleased with that because I think we need to send a message to our kids that we preach to them do the right thing, dont bully kids, dont drink, dont' smoke -- if someone is caught with theft that is automatic dismissal in my mind, George Besecker, a parent of a high school student, said.
There are now two individuals at those athletic events where those tickets are taken and money are processed at the same time when they count the money they come together and count the money under a camera area, Superintendent Brian Griffith said.
Hosterman has been the longtime athletic director for the Rams and serves on the PIAA District VI athletic committee.
