CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. -- A Karthaus man was sentenced after he shot his own dog, Anne, in a neighbors yard and left it to suffer.
Barry Grove, 57, is to spend five to 10 years in jail for being a felon that was not allowed to have a gun.
Investigators said Groves dog was visiting a neighbor, and after drinking Grove went to the neighbors house and shot the dog with a rifle.
Anne was put to sleep after troopers found Anne alive, and struggling due to severe and fatal injuries.
Grove is never allowed to possess a firearm due to his criminal history, which includes multiple DUIs, felony criminal trespass and criminal attempt theft.
This felon should have never had this firearm in his hands period. Throw in alcohol, seeking Anne out in his neighbor's yard and callously gunning down a defenseless pet with a high-powered rifle amongst homes, the case was particularly troubling. We were pleased with the state sentence," said District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller.
