Special locks on doors prohibited burglars to enter

NANTY GLO, Pa. -- Police in Nanty Glo investigated an early morning home invasion Sunday, at two separate homes on Rodgers Street.

One person is in custody but two others are believed to still be on the run.

Homeowners in Nanty Glo said they were upset after police said three men broke into two homes just blocks away from each other.

One of the homeowners said he tackled one of the men, Charles Freeman, to the ground before calling police.

Freeman is in jail but police said he had a key piece of evidence linking him to one of the break-ins.

I was awaken by voices, said Homeowner Linda Martin. I dont know if they had already opened the door to the chain and were banging on the door trying to get in but I heard the voices thats what woke me up. There was really no home damage just them taking a can of my husbands nutritional food.

Lindas husband, who has Lou Gehrigs disease, requires around the clock care and together they have a 16-year-old son with autism.

Linda said their son like to wander off so they installed locks that he cannot unlock himself.

Police said that is what prevented the suspects from barging into their home.

We have them installed so you cant do that because eventually he would figure it out.

Linda and her husband were thankful no one was but she said the thought of what happened was terrifying.

I'm here taking care of my husband and our autistic son by myself... so yes it's very scary to know that people just barge into your house.

Freeman was charged Sunday afternoon and police said they expect to file more charges for breaking into the Martins Home.
