Penn State honors survivors of abuse
By: Lauren Hensley
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-- Penn State's Center for Ethics and Religious Affairs, and the Center for Women Students came together to raise awareness about various forms of violence and the incredible journeys of survivors who find a way to move forward despite their pain and struggle.
The program "Honoring Survival: Transforming the Spirit," honors the strength and resiliency of survivors of sexual, emotional and physical violence, and those who support them in their healing process. The intention is to bring these issues to light, and focus on the courage and tenacity of the survivors.
I hope that those who are here as survivors are able to take some comfort and feel a little empowered and to perhaps break the silence one day if they have not. I would hope someone that does not understand can come here to get a look at what it is like to be a victim, a survivor, and see a little of what that recovery process is like, what it is, Penn State senior Melisas Skolnick said.
Survivors like Skolnick shared their stories to help others find inspiration and healing.
