One Run for Boston passing through Pennsylvania

By: WJAC Web Staff

EBENSBURG, Pa. -- Two thousand people are involved in running miles in remembrance of the Boston marathon victims.

6 News spoke with runners from Cambria County who are participating in the relay.

The run is called One Run for Boston and the race started March 16 in Santa Monica, Calif., and Wednesday runners will be passing through the Cambria County area enroute to Boston, Mass.

"This year we are going to run Ebensburg to Cresson to support the same cause," said runner Ashleigh Williamson.

Two out of the 2,000 runners who are participating are Ashleigh and Jason Williamson.

"The bombing[s] were really something and right away the running community came together," said runner Jason Williamson.

Many of the runners involved were directly impacted or just want to show support.

Runners will be running seven to 10 miles cross country passing through Pennsylvania passing along one baton totaling 3,000 miles.

"It was really different to see the running community not really a competition all the time," said Jason. What other sport can you plan and you look to the left and right and see friends, competitors and hug, so."

The race will end two days before the Boston marathon bombings which occurred April 15.

If you are interested in donating to the cross country race you can help by visiting the One Run For Boston website.
