Attorney talks about Johnstown stabbing case

ALTOONA, Pa. -- After nearly two weeks on the run, Demetrius Gibson surrendered to police this past weekend, but not before seeking assistance from a prominent attorney.

Gibson is accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death at a Johnstown car wash on August 6.  Police said Gibson and Elizabeth Miller had argued earlier in the evening and agreed to meet at the car wash in Moxham.

Defense attorney Thomas Dickey is representing Gibson.  He talked to 6 News Wednesday about the case.

We had a scared young man who is confused and was uncertain about what to do, Dickey said.  I know that once his family had contacted me it was clear in my mind what needed to be done.  That was he needed to get himself in (to the police) and he did that."

Gibson remains in jail.  Dickey said he's just starting to build his case and won't confirm that his client killed Miller, but he's not denying it either.

It just doesn't make sense to me that there is a specific intent to kill in this case, he said.  But again it's really early on and we need to investigate every aspect of the case.

Gibson is schedule for a preliminary hearing on September 12.
