Brockway schools locked down during standoff

by Deven Clarke

BROCKWAY, Pa. -- The standoff following the shooting of a state trooper prompted the extended lockdown of the Brockway Area School District.

"I freaked out, grabbed everything and went down to the school," said Bille Jo Randall, who has two kids in the district.

"An announcement came on saying, 'close the blinds, turn the lights off and just sit there,'" said A.J. Bingham, Randall's son and a sophomore at the high school.

Bingham said they learned what was going on by watching the news.

"A lot of my friends were crying," said Jasmin Randall, an elementary student.

Students were released from school after 6 p.m. Thursday evening.

With the standoff ongoing at press time, it's unclear if classes will go on Friday.
