1 person recovering, 4 others arrested following weekend shooting

Johnstown police have four people in custody after a shooting in the city over the weekend. So far police believe only one of them fired the shots that wounded a man, but said three others were with the suspect when he was arrested and where all near a large quantity of drugs.

Police said Monday that Ramon Hernandez is still recovering in the hospital after being shot at least twice over the weekend. Police believe it happened inside an apartment along Conway Court in the Prospect homes around 6 a.m. Sunday.

"The victim and witnesses on scene were able to provide the officers with information of the possible whereabouts of at least two of the people involved," said Johnstown Police Chief Craig Foust.

Police said that information led them to a different apartment along Gray Avenue where they arrested four people inside, including Tyshawn Plowden, who police allege pulled the trigger. They also arrested Jasmine Hinton, Donnie Jones and Nathaniel Danner, who are all accused of dealing drugs.

"We were able to recover a firearm along with a variety of drugs from that apartment," said Foust.

But at the scene of the shooting police said they found several spent casings from two different guns and at least four bullet holes in the walls.

"There's still a lot of things to be put together," said Foust. "We're matching up spent rounds and casings we found at the scene and also there was a report there may have been an individual who returned fire."

While police said drugs certainly played a role in the incident, Foust said the motive is not yet clear.

"It's safe in saying that drugs did play a role in this incident, but whether it precipitated the actual shooting or not is yet to be determined," said Foust.

Police said Plowden was also wanted in New York for parole violations. He's in jail tonight on $250,000 bail. The three others are also in jail for drug-related charges.
