Original Meadows custard shop being remodeled

by WJAC Web Staff

DUNCANSVILLE, Pa. -- The Meadows Original Frozen Custard Shop in Duncansville is being torn down and remodeled.

Richard Meadows, the president of J V Meadows and Sons, Inc. told 6 News that contractors are pushing the building pack several feet.

He said PennDOT has been taking frontage off of the property for years and now there's not much room for cars to park.

The Duncansville location is the original shop in the chain. Meadows said it's world-renowned, and has even been featured on the Food Network.

Meadows also said the building hold sentimental value for the generations of people who've gone there for a sweet treat on hot summer nights.

"It's definitely bittersweet," he said. "We have had so many remarks from the public stating you can't tear that down: I've grown up there. Believe me, I know exactly what they're talking about because I grew up there myself."

Construction starts next week.

The new building will retain the look of the old facade and feature a drive-thru.

The shop should be open in March.
