LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A convenience store clerk tried to stop a robbery at a Clearfield County Kwik Fill with a mop, but was unsuccessful, according to police.
Lawrence Township police said an investigation was underway into an armed robbery at the Kwik Fill on South Second Street at about 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the employee was in the back of the store and when he returned to the front, he saw a man behind the counter at the cash register.
Police said the employee hit the man with a mop, but the man then struck the employee with a fist or a weapon, knocking the clerk to the ground.
The man then told the employee to not look at him and ran from the store, police said.
Police said they were able to track his footprints to a vehicle, which he then used to get away.
Police said the robber was approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build and was wearing a red or orange coat and a black ski mask.
Police did not indicate what, if anything, the robbery got away with from the store. They were urging anyone who may have any information about the robbery to contact them.
