Fields for Kids grant applications in process
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Grant deadlines from the Pittsburgh Pirates Field for Kids program have been officially announced.
The Field for Kids program is to provide financial support to improve youth baseball and or softball facilities through matching grants from $1,000 to $5,000.
Each year since 2009 the Pirates nonprofit group distributes grants in three rounds: spring, summer and fall.
The application due dates for 2014, in order, application due date Mar. 3, 2014 and grant determination date Apr. 14, 2014. May 2, 2014 for application and grant determination date is June 27, 2014. Last is summer which the application due date is due Aug. 1 and the grant date is Sept. 26, 2014.
The grant funds are used for upgrading field components such as sod, infield surfaces, fencing, dugouts and irrigation systems. Many organizations use the funds to make upgrades such as lights, bleachers, scoreboards and concession stands.
Organizations must complete an application and submit all required documents for consideration. Final grant determinations will be made by Pirates charities.

Last year, a total of 32 youth baseball and softball organizations located in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia were awarded grants to help programs continue. Since 2009, more than 150 grants have been awarded in Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, eastern Ohio and Pirates spring training home Bradenton Fla.
