Field & Stream store planned for Altoona area

Store may be open by Thanksgiving

ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Developers for an expanding outdoors store chain are hoping to open a store this year in a former electronics retailer in the Altoona area.

Developers with Field & Stream are planning to build a store where the former Circuit City once was in the Sierra North Plaza along Plank Road in Allegheny Township. Field & Stream is owned by the same company as Dicks Sporting Goods.

Allegheny Township Supervisors Chairman David Burchfield Jr., said township officials are working with an engineer on plans to demolish the Circuit City building and build a larger structure to house the store.

Burchfield said the plans are ready to go and include a lot of retail space, including taxidermy displays and other intricate details.

Construction could begin in the coming weeks, and developers would like to have the store open in time for Thanksgiving, Burchfield said. The store should create approximately 50 jobs.

Field & Stream sells products geared toward hunting, fishing and camping, and offer gun, bow and tackle experts at the stores.

The stores are not associated with Field & Stream magazine.
