Pennsylvania State Parks open for First Day Hikes

By: WJAC Web Staff

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. -- The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will sponsor guided hikes in state parks all over the United States on New Years Day specifically at Black Moshannon State Park.

"Our First Day Hikes help remind people that our state parks and forests are open for healthy outdoor adventures in all four seasons, including winter," said DCNR Secretary Ellen Ferretti.

This is to promote healthy lifestyles throughout the year and recreation at the state parks.

All 50 states are involved for the first time in sponsoring First Day Hikes.

Pennsylvania State Park staff and volunteers are leading the one to two mile hikes.

"Last year, we hosted approximately 785 people who hiked over more than 2,000 miles in our state parks across Pennsylvania," said Ferretti.
