Woman arrested for allegedly leaving 2 puppies to die

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Police in Cambria County have arrested a Johnstown woman for allegedly leaving two puppies to die inside of a filthy and cold house.

Johnstown police said Samantha Meyers allegedly left two puppies in a house that is in deplorable condition on Beatrice Avenue in the city's West End. Investigators found the puppies dead on Wednesday.

Meyers told officers that "she had no heat and had to leave" the house, police said. Meyers said she knew it was wrong to leave the animals, but she emphasized that she had no heat in the home.

Police said the animals were taken to an area veterinarian who said the dogs were extremely emaciated and likely died due to exposure to the cold.

Code enforcement officers have condemned the home.

Meyers was arrested on animal cruelty charges Thursday afternoon. She was then released on $5,000 unsecured bond.
