By: WJAC Web Staff

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a woman who allegedly took a young girl with her when she moved her family from Cambria County to Washington, D.C., in late December.

Johnstown police said Tuesday morning that Belinda Hancock was arrested by Washington, D.C., Metro Police at about 10 a.m. Hancock is in custody on kidnapping charges.

Police said Hancock took Kayada Martin, 3, of Johnstown, with her after the girl visited with her during the holidays.

The girl was found Jan. 23 in the nation's capital.

Kayada's mother told 6 News previously that Hancock is a close family friend, is the girl's godmother, and that Kayada spends time with her over the holidays.

Kayada was at Hancock's house on Christmas, but she never came home, her mother said. Through a series of phone calls and text messages, it was learned that Hancock moved her family from Johnstown to Washington, D.C., and took Kayada with them.

Martin is also facing child custody interference charges.
