SANDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- An elderly man from Clearfield County has died from his injuries after the vehicle he was driving was struck by a train earlier this week.

Sandy Township police said Robert Kennedy, 89, of DuBois, died at UPMC Altoona following the Wednesday crash.

Police said Kennedy was driving a six-wheel utility vehicle on Kennedy Lane, just off of Route 219, at about 12 p.m.

As Kennedy tried to cross the tracks, his vehicle was struck by a Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad locomotive, police said. Kennedy's vehicle was pushed approximately 30 feet, trapping him inside.

Firefighters had to extricate Kennedy from the vehicle and he was then flown to UPMC Altoona where he died.
