Winter Weather On the Way

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the entire region through Monday afternoon. Snow, some heavy at times will work through the region over the next 24 to 36 hours.  Looks like even into Tuesday some snow showers may linger.  Accumulations are likely and in some cases may exceed 5 to 9" across parts of the region.  Look for some colder air to move in for the beginning of the week as well with temperatures in the 20s for highs.

Centre County emergency homeless shelter in need of donations

By: Lauren Hensley

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The State College Out of the Cold program is a partnership of area congregations that provides emergency shelter for the homeless and they are asking for your help. Due to the extreme cold, there has been a growing need for this service. They are asking people to donate blankets, cots, meals, money or volunteer their time.

When we started out in November with four to six guests in the evening, Pastor Monica Ouellette with St. Johns United Church of Christ said. We are up to 11 or even 15 a lot of nights and for some of our smaller congregations that is the biggest number of space they can take with the program.

The program was created 3-years ago after a Bellefonte man froze to death while sleeping outside.  There are ten area churches participates.

Any donations can be dropped off at the following churches:

Calvary Baptist Church
Faith United Church of Christ
Grace Lutheran Church
St. Johns United Church of Christ
St. Pauls United Methodist Church
State College Assembly of God
State College Presbyterian Church
Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County
Unity Church of Jesus Christ
The University of Mennonite Church
