Marijuana growing operation busted in Cambria Co.

By: Marc Stempka

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A call for emergency help resulted in officials finding two bedrooms containing a marijuana growing operation in Cambria County, according to police.

Jackson Township police said emergency responders from the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department and EMS were called to a house in the 100 block of Loraine Road on Tuesday to treat a patient who had inhaled some kind of substance or odor. When first responders were ventilating the home, two bedrooms containing the growing operation were discovered.

Police investigators obtained a search warrant for the property and found more than 60 marijuana plants, several large plastic bags of packed marijuana, an 18-gallon storage container of marijuana, fertilizer, ledgers, heat lamps, other drugs, drug paraphernalia and other items needed to grow marijuana in the two bedrooms.

Police said Richard Wiedenhoeft, 53, of Nanty Glo, is the homes owner. There is an active warrant out for his arrest on charges of manufacturing and distributing controlled substances and other charges.

Police asked anyone with information about Wiedenhoefts whereabouts to contact them through the Cambria County 911 Centers non-emergency number at 814-472-2100.
