JENNER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Fire crews spent several hours working to control a fire in Somerset County while dealing with below zero temperatures Thursday morning.

Somerset County emergency dispatch said the fire was reported at about 4:15 a.m. at the home at 140 W. 3rd St. in the community of Gray in Jenner Township.

Sipesville Fire Department Chief Scott Kovach said when firefighters first got to the scene there was smoke coming from all the windows.

"[We did the] best we could with the resources that we had," Kovach said. "[The] cold weather did not help things with [the] man power situation and water freezing."

A man and a pet were inside the home when the fire started, Kovach said. The man was able to escape without injury, but his pet did not survive.

There no immediate information available about what may have started the blaze.
