LIHEAP offering help with heating bills
By: Kerri Corrado
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- With the area not being able to shake this cold winter weather, some people may be in need of assistance to keep their homes warm throughout the remainder of the winter months.
The low-income home energy assistance program (LIHEAP) is helping families pay for their heating bills.
LIHEAP sends grants to utility providers to offset the heating bills based on income requirements.
LIHEAP also has a crisis component if you are in danger of having no heat, whether you have less than 15 days of fuel, your utility service threatened to shut off heat, or your heating equipment broke.
LIHEAP representatives says they received 380,000 applications statewide, but there is still money available for people who may need assistance.
To see if you qualify you can go to your local LIHEAP office or apply online here, or call 866-857-7095.
