Penn State wrestler gets chance to have DUI record cleared

BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- A Penn State wrestling national champion will have the opportunity to have his record cleared following a DUI arrest.
Centre County court officials said Ed Ruth was accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program on Wednesday following his arrest for drunk driving in State College on Nov. 13.
State College police said Ruth was intoxicated while trying to park a vehicle in front of Taco Bell on East College Avenue at about 2 a.m. when he hit the curb and a tree. Police paperwork showed Ruths blood alcohol content at that time was .281 percent, more than three times the legal limit.
Ruth was suspended from the Penn State wrestling team for breaking team rules following the incident. He has since returned and is continuing to wrestle.
If Ruth completes the requirements of the ARD program, he has the opportunity to have his record cleared and avoid jail time.
