Shoppers prepare for winter storm

By: Lauren Hensley

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Snow removal crews aren't the only ones busy getting ready before a storm expected to hit west-central Pennsylvania Tuesday into Wednesday. Shoppers in Centre County were taking advantage of the hours before the storm to make sure they are ready with supplies for the next several days.

Dozens of shoppers like Theron Louis are taking advantage of the clear weather before the storm that is expected to dump several inches in Centre County.

"I heard the snowstorm was coming I am in need of as you can see water. I need cereal, all my necessities basically to all keep me going through the storm, Louis said.

Food isn't the only item that is bringing shoppers out and into the cold. Winter essentials are also flying off the shelves and into the carts.

"I was supposed to get a snow scraper, but when you come here there is always something else. So I got snacks and chips and things like that to keep me in during the storm so I don't have to go out," shopper Rosbert Jones said.

Many of the shoppers said the reason they are getting out before the storm is because they do not want to drive while the roads are snow covered.

Officials don't want drivers on the roads either. According to the Governor's Office, they are urging drivers to avoid travel if possible. PennDOT crews will be working around the clock to clean up.

"The biggest concern for me is the ice. I don't use the bus. Wherever I go I walk so I've got to be mindful," Louis said.
