STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State is hosting the annual farming conference, which draws a nationwide audience.

One of the largest conferences held at Penn State is talking about sustainable agriculture.

We have first-time farmers here, said Pennsylvania Associate for Sustainable Agriculture Brian Snyder.

The emphasis is organic, environmental friendly farming and the main focus was how the product is produced.

Some high-tech issues discussed are the genetic engineering of seeds and crops, and the groups lobbying against it.

People want organic farming, said Ann Marie Cantrel of GMO Free Pennsylvania.

The safety of our food supply chain is drawing increased awareness and the groups lobbying against it.

People like to shop locally, said Pennsylvania Associate for Sustainable Farming Jenn Halpren.

The sustainable agriculture conference at Penn State continues through the weekend with a host of seminars and special programs.
