Four injured in Elk Co. crash

By: WJAC Web Staff

RIDGWAY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- At least four people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on a busy Elk County roadway Wednesday morning.

Officials at the scene told 6 News reporter Deven Clarke that a tri-axle hauling coal and two vehicles were involved in the crash along Route 219 between the top of Boot Jack Mountain and Ridgway in Ridgway Township at about 11 a.m.

At least 20 tons of coal spilled from the truck onto the roadway, officials said, and crews were working to clean up the coal and upright the tri-axle, which rolled onto its side.

The extent of injuries sustained by those involved in the crash was not immediately available.

State police at Ridgway were investigating the crash.

The roadway reopened just after 2 p.m.
